Wobble Owl Birthday Card for a Child

Well hello there crafty friends!

It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted here on my blog. Since I’ve last posted I joined Brass & Bliss Craft Co. as one of their designers!!! I’m really excited about this opportunity and I am looking forward to sharing my creations using their products.

I created this card for my best friends child who just turned one 😊. When I first saw this owl set, my mind instantly went to children’s birthday cards. This card uses mostly Brass & Bliss products. There were a few dies (such as the balloons and the little party hat) that came from Spellbinders. I apologize in advance, I was grooving out to my music while creating this card and I did not take photos of my progress. For future posts I plan to share progression photos along with the final product. However, for today I just have my written steps. If you have any questions leave them in the comments below!

  • Cut a mini slimline panel to 3 1/2 x 6. I used white card stock.
  • Ink the background using an ink blender tool. My background was inked using Odyssey from the Color Fuse set #7.
  • Using the same ink color from the previous step, place some of the ink on a slick surface such as a glassmat. You can use your stamp pad or an ink from a re-inker.
  • Add some embossing paste to the ink and mix using your pallet knife until you have your desired color.
  • Take the Repeating Bricks Stencil and secure down to your panel and surface. I work on a glass mat with a metal backing, so I am able to secure my stencil with magnets. If you do not have a magnetic surface, you can use low tack tape to keep your stencil in place.
  • Spread the colored embossing paste over the stencil with your pallet knife.
  • Set the wet panel to the side and immediately clean your stencil, pallet knife, and surface before the paste dries.
  • Using white card stock, die cut the Build and Owl die. Place all the pieces in a dish to keep them from getting lost.
  • Determine which owl body, arms, and eyes you like the best.
  • Color your owl pieces using your ink colors and blending tools. The colors I used are:
    • Body: Grass Color Fuse #11 set
    • Arms: Juniper Color Fuse #11 set
    • Belly Piece: Arctic Color Fuse #7
    • Outside Eye: Arctic Color Fuse #7
    • Eye Color: Hearth Color Fuse #12
    • Outside Beak and Feet: Apricot Color Fuse #2
    • Inside Beak: Crimson Color Fuse #4
  • Next, die cut the balloons and party hat. These dies are from the 2023 Advent Calendar from Spellbinders. It is no longer for sale, so if you do not have these products go through your stash to see if you have anything similar.  If not, you can draw them out by hand and fussy cut.
  • Color your balloon and party hat. The colors I used are:
    • Balloon 1: Crimson Color Fuse #4
    • Balloon 2: Autumn Color Fuse #1
    • Balloon 3: Apricot Color Fuse #2
    • Party Hat: Autumn Color Fuse #1
  • Next, using white card stock, die cut your letters using the Small Classic Alphabet Die. Depending on what you want to spell out, you may have to do a few rounds of die cutting.
  • Color your letters using your inks and blending tools. The colors I used are:
    • Happy: Crimson Color Fuse #4
    • Birthday: Autumn Color Fuse #1
    • JayJay: Apricot Color Fuse #2
  • Check your card panel to see if it’s dry. If it is, determine if you like the color of your bricks. If you feel like you need more color, you can ink blend some more on using your ink blending tool and desired color.
  • Now it’s time to put everything together! I started with the owl, then moved onto the balloons, then I added my words to the panel.
    • For the words, I lined them up on my grid line surface first, then I took a strip of low tack tape and placed it over this word. This helped me keep all the pieces together so that when I glued them down to the panel they all stayed aligned.
  • Before I added the owl to the card, I added a wobblier of the back. I purchased these action wobblers from SimonSayStamp.com
    • To check out the wobblier in action, visit my Instagram post.
  • Now all you have to do is adhere your panel to a 7 X 6 (score at 3 1/2) card base and you’re all done!
I hope that you enjoyed todays card! Have a great day!

Dominique
